Developing our Management Information team

As our client base grows new talent is joining the team.  Our newest recruit is Vicky Coombes, a Chartered Accountant who has worked with a leading firm in the marketing services sector.

Richard Cowen, Managing Director of CWC Resources said, “We’re delighted to have Vicky on board.  Her wealth of experience in the sector will add to our industry specialisation.”

Vicky is working with Siva Tharmalingam and Wendy John-Chuan as part of the management information team to provide clients with a comprehensive overview of their company’s progress.  The CWC approach to management accounts ensures that clients get a full interpretation of what their management accounts indicate alongside advice and guidance on practical steps to take to move their business forward.

Vicky says “It’s exciting to be working with a number of marketing services companies.  Every company is unique and has different needs and I’m getting already to know my portfolio of clients and how I can help them best.”

CWC now offers HR services

Outsourced finance services cover a wide range of areas and we’ve often found ourselves recruiting specialist staff on behalf of clients.  We’re experts in the finance world, but the finer points of human resources don’t go far beyond first class interviewing and selection skills.HR, led by Karen Wagman.

We can now offer our clients an even better service with HR support to ensure our clients employment issues operate smoothly.

From recruitment to resignation, Karen knows how to tailor HR systems to suit the way marketing agencies work.

Having worked at Omnicom, as with all our staff, Karen has considerable experience in MarComms, which means that we continue to offer very specialised support and advice to our clients.

Grace crosses to River

It’s with regret that we say goodbye to Grace Oyerinde. Grace has been part of the CWC Resources team from the start, but has spent so much time recently working for one of our clients, River Research, that it’s become virtually her entire role.

River Research liked Grace so much that, now they are big enough to bring the bookkeeping and financial control in house, they said “Could we just keep Grace?”

We have come to a very amicable agreement and Grace will shortly become a member of the River Research team.

So it’s not really goodbye. Grace will still be working alongside us at CWC as we continue to provide River with management information and strategic advice.

“It’s sad to be leaving CWC, I’ve had fun working here, but it’s really good to know I’ll still be working with them, just in a slightly different way,” says Grace.

Case study – River Research

The financial structure for a start up to grow

The brief

Julian Kenway and Joe Brown worked for a large multinational research agency and caught the entrepreneurial bug.  They decided to start up River Research and wanted help to put a robust financial structure in place.

The challenge

Julian and Joe have a comprehensive knowledge of the research business and could have managed their own finances, but wanted to invest their time in winning clients and delivering the services that their clients wanted.  They needed to be comfortable that the company’s financial systems were running effectively so they could focus 100% on growing the business.

The solution

CWC Resources worked with Julian and Joe to establish what they wanted and now run the finance department on behalf of River Research.

The bookkeeping has now been brought inhouse due to the demands of the company’s rapid growth.  CWC continues to provide financial control and management information on a monthly basis to enable them to make timely and informed decisions about their business.

CWC also provide financial direction working as a partner with River Research. The CWC staff are seen as members of River Research and attend their staff events and meetings.

Richard Cowen, Managing Director of CWC, says “River Research is one of our success stories; it’s always satisfying to see a business grow so well.  They’ve been in business two years now and have an well-established business and it’s still growing, which is a real achievement during a recession.”

Our client’s feedback

Richard and his team have been with us from the very start, helping us manage and grow the business from day 1.  As we now look to expand further into new sectors and markets it’s reassuring to have CWC working in the background to ensure our decisions and our strategy are financially realistic.  CWC is an integral part of our business and a core part of our success.

The team at the Arc de Triomphe

On 22 September the CWC Resources team went off on their first awayday.  With Robbie in South Africa and Steve called away at the last minute, that left Richard in the company of seven lovely ladies!

A short trip from the office to St Pancras and the journey started on the EuroStar to Paris, arriving just in time for lunch.  After three hours eating and drinking everyone was in the mood for doing the tourist ‘thing’ and took a ‘petit tour’ via the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower to walk off the effects of lunch.

Next on the agenda was a boat trip down the Seine to see Notre Dame.  Richard explains “We felt we hadn’t eaten enough so we found another nice restaurant for dinner!”

Eating and drinking played a big part in the Awayday!

The team just made the train back and even managed a drink or two more on the way home.  Definitely a great day out.
